Papsmear Part 1 here
Previous information:
I had my last papsmear just over a year ago.
It came back normal.
Re-cap:
Last week I got a phonecall from the nurse at my local doctors. I needed to come in within the next month for an appointment with my Dr regarding my results. I asked her if the papsmear came back abnormal? She told me the Dr needed to discuss my results and let me know my options.. *PANIC set in*….
I couldn’t get an appointment until the 7th March… ARGH… I got put on a waiting list..
I got an early appointment.
Today.
3.45pm I learnt the fate of having a papsmear yearly (instead of waiting every 2 years as I am classed as high risk due to my sister had CIN III and my mum had cervical cancer).
Dr welcomed me into her office.
Sat me down.
Told me that I was due for a papsmear (it was flashing on her computer)
I informed her that she gave me one last week.
Oh yes – its here and yes I have the results… Oh.. she said.
OH OH??? OH NO is all I could think in my head.. a million things going on already in my head right now (I could list them – Renovations, Wedding plans, MasterS’s leg diagnosis, Toilet Training MissC, House a mess and never seem to get on top of putting clothes away etc etc – the usually Mummy thoughts)
OH is not what I need right now!
But Oh is what I got and here are the results:
The results: (Medical Terms used here)
High Grade Squamous Intrapithelial Lesion
Microscopy: Endocervical Component – Present
Abnormal cells are evident indicative of CIN III and concomitant human papilloma virus infection.
Small numbers of dysplastic cells are present and in addition there are metaplastic cells showing reactive atypia.
Recommendation: Colopscopic evaluation is recoomended.
Non Medical Terms:
Think of your cervic as a circle.
- Inside the circle are very few abnormal cells.. This is CIN I
- Inside the circle there are quite a few abnormal cells.. This is CIN II
- Covering the whole circle are abnormal cells.. This is CIN III – Pre-Cancerous
- Abnormal cells penetrated through the circle and into the blood stream this is Cervical Cancer.
So I have CIN III – Now that they have found this information out – they can do something about it – Biopsy, Colposcopic, Laser Surgery and they will zap those abnormal cells before the penetrate into the skin!
Should I be worried?
Yes but trying not to let it stress me out, there is nothing I can do except wait for the appointment where I will be in the best care of getting rid of the abnormal cells.
10 minutes later Drew phoned (as he is away up in Tom Price tonight for work) and asked how I went. I explained to him in the ‘simple terms’. He said so its not cancerous. I said no not yet. It could be in a month, it could be in a year. But now they know the problem they can treat it hopefully before it gets worse.
I have my appointment with the Gynocologist on the 27th April. Where I will be going in for a biopsy and possible laser surgery. That will be Part 3.
Right now I am going to focus on my Hen’s night this Saturday, my Wedding on the 24th March and MasterS’s appointment with the Dr who specialises in Motor skills in infants and will be able to diagnose whether its Hyper-mobility or not. Plus our renovations have well and truely begun – next week the concrete goes down!
Its all go here at Delightfully Tacky Little Squirts.
Even though we’re having a small 40 people wedding.. I kinda now wish we just eloped and saved the money for all these other things that have now popped up!!
Hindsight is a b*tch.
Please think about the last time you got a papsmear done.
Are you overdue?
Please phone your doctor and make an appointment!
I am so glad I was on the high risk list and was able to catch this within a year. I can’t even imagine if I had waited another year (or 3 in the UK).
Please pass this post on so we can spread the word that something that takes 5 minutes to do can save your life.
You have such a positive attitude…. Hopefully you can stay focused until April 3rd.. the time between then and now will go very fast! Sending positive thoughts xxxx
Yvette, it's so great that you have caught those cells before they penetrate the cervix. It's still a scary thing to hear…your heart just must have been pounding!!
Oh dear, keep your chin up and stay positive, things will be ok;)
Yes, it's good they've caught it early! Still, I know it must be scary! Thinking of you babe
bx
So glad it's been caught early and you have a treatment plan happening. I'll keep everything crossed for you.
This is a good result – you caught it before it got to te next stage. Hope all goes well. Thinking of you x
So glad they caught it in time and that you didn't keep putting off your pap smear… like I know many of us do… cough cough.
I am actually up to date with mine. I went a few months ago.
Keep looking to the positives!
I have been through this EXACT experience. Glad they got it in time for you xx
Thanks Yvette you've just kicked my arse into gear to get mine done since having Miss A five months ago, I just keep putting it on the back burner, no more, ringing Dr first thing in the morning and making an appointment x
I hope by you talking about this you remind some women that now is a great time for a pap smear! Good luck with everything…and you are right cross one thing off your list at a time…have fun on the hens night! xxx
Yvette, I'm sending all kinds of good thoughts your way. Thanks for sharing this with us. Going to check with my doctor to see when my next pap smear is due. I think it must be soon. This was a great reminder to just get it done.
Yvette, thanks for sharing this not so good news.
So glad you have yearly appointments and they can act on these results now.
Positive vibes sent your way too – for this and everything else going on with your wedding and all.
I'd already made an appointment yesterday before I saw your tweet.
Sending lots of good thoughts your way – think about the wedding, and your girls night out and forget about the Doc's news!
xxx
Good luck with your appointment. So glad for you that they found it in time. You seem like a very positive person. Like you said there isn't much you can do at this point so just keep going. Enjoy your hen's night!
On a side note, my daughter had hypermobility when she was much younger. She had to see an occupational therapist once a week to work on her gross and fine motor skills. She was given little exercises that we had to do a couple times a day. She's 4 now and you would never know that she had any problems.
So glad that you didn't have to wait another year for your pap smear and that they've caught it early, in the 'pre' stages. I am sending you so much love and positive thoughts. Your positive attitude is amazing and your sharing here will hopefully enlighten other women. You are amazing x
At least all the busy happenings are enough to keep your mind off things, so that you won't have a huge amount of time to worry. This is the last thing you need now, just before the wedding.
Praying for you. Hope part three goes well. Xxx
Agh this is the last thing that you need to hear. My heart goes out to you. You have so much going on and it must be doing your head in. But try not to wish away the wedding… you've earned it, you deserve it, you'll love it and you'll always remember it. Keep up the positive thinking. xo
I was prompted by Mrs. Woog's post too, I'd been putting it off for 5 months! Thank goodness you got the results, and are getting the treatment needed. Positive energy coming your way x
I've just found your blog and wanted to tell you, that thanks to reading this I have now booked my papsmear for next week. Putting it off is not a good thing.
So glad that they have caught it in time. Shall keep reading to see how it all goes.
that really sucks- I am sorry that you have to stress about that- but thank goodness you had a PAP.
Stay positive and focus on the wedding – it is always nice to have something great like that to look forward to when things get tough.
Fairy wishes and butterfly kisses lovely xxx
I also had Cin level III which I discovered after my first papsmear, at my post natal 6 week check. I had a colcoscopy and a wire loop excision and pap smears every 6 months for the next 2 years. 10 years on and all is still good so good luck wishing you all the best
This is a really good post…anything that encourages women to not let these kind of things go is a blessing. thank you and I wish you all good things.
I had the same diagnosis about 15 years ago. The announcement was scarier than the treatment, the doctor rang me at 9.30pm one night to tell me to come in the next morning to discuss the results. Didn't sleep a wink. But they zapped the cells and have been getting tests every year since with no problem. Now I don't have a cervix (hysterectomy last November), the risk is greatly reduced but apparently I still need to have pap smears.
Good you for getting on top of it, book a test in on your birthday every year and you won't forget ever!
Hugs. I had a similar experience a few years ago, and they grabbed the nasties before anything nasty happened. I get the yearly tests now and it's a reminder not to be complacent. Hopefully you will have the same happy ending. I hate having pap smears, but really, the alternative is so much worse, isn't it? Good luck babe. xo
Scary news, Yvette. With your wonderfully positive and pragmatic approach, though, I just know you're going to be okay. x
great promise of performance and scalability Pap Smear
