That is definitely a question I get alot – what do I do with leftover crusts?
You can see Part two .
Yesterday we made cute little frog sandwiches for lunch.
On the menu:
Peanut Butter and Sprinkles Frog Sandwich (using the CuteZCute Cutter)
Yoghurt
Carrots and Celery with Mayo Dip (using a Food Bucket)
What did I do with the leftover crusts? Surely I did not waste them!
No we don’t!
There are various ways to use leftover crusts. It really does depend on how much leftover crusts you have, which determines what you can do with them.
Yesterday we decided to have Eggy Bears – as the shape of the crusts looked like a little bear – what my mum calls Eggs in Baskets)
Eggy Bears (Eggs in baskets)
Instructions:
In a fry pan – place about a knob of butter and melt.
Place bread in fry pan until lightly golden.
Flip the bread over and crack egg into the hole.
Cook until ready (or flip if you don’t like it sunny side up!)
Eat immediately!
These were so successful with my little ones, that they have requested it for lunch again today!
Look out for the next installment of “What to do with Leftover Crusts”
What do you do with leftover crusts?
Linking up today’s post with Essentially Jess for IBOT
We call it ‘toad in the hole’ it’s a favourite around here too!! X Karen #teamIBOT
I’ve got to admit I was wondering this too! It’s one of the reasons why I haven’t gone done the sandwich cutter route yet. (Because I know that once I start, I won’t be able to stop
Great idea! The kids love their cutter made shape sandwiches & everyone here loves “Eggy Bears” or as we call them here “Eggy Bread” Win Win!
I am incredibly unimaginative with food ideas… but now feeling inspired to use those cutters hidden somewhere in the back of the bottom utensil drawer! Thanks Yvette.
Yvette this is awesome!! I love it. Eggy Bears will definitely be making an appearance in the de Beer house. Thanks xx
Fab idea! And very cute too!
That is a very cool idea. We do toads in the hole for bacon and eggs, just with circles. Boatman and the kids love the little bit of circle bread left over, cause he cooks that on the barbie with everything else. I don’t get the fascination myself, but whatever works!!!
I saw these ok your Instagram. So yum! We call them “toad in a hole” when the middle is a circle, and my husband calls them “one eyed sailors” with the middle cut out as a square. weirdo.
haha!
You’ve got me craving this now!!
We called these spaceship eggs when we were kids – the yolk was the astronaut inside. Loved them, probably still do. I should give them a burl on my own kids!
Very cute. I cldnt tell what they were the other day and now it’s all come clear. I love them!
I think that was the first thing I asked you when we met at DPCon!
With our crusts I do one of four things: I eat them, or they go into the freezer for a duck pond visit, future bread crumbs or my dad’s chooks.
Love the egg trick!
Great idea Yvette – love the teddy bear shape left in the bread too!
What a fabulous idea – I’ve been annoyed at the wastage since I started trying out more adventurous lunches (all your fault, your darn facebook pics) so this is great
Perfect way to use the leftovers! x
Seriously Yvette, you are so clever! I might try that for my husband! I’m sure he will like it!
Awesome idea!
Love this Yvette, this was one of the first questions I wanted to ask you lol!!
I love what you do with your lunches. My poor kids just get little squares. I sometimes have the urge to make cute things but can never find any cutters. I think this is a great idea for the left over crusts.
