Today I am giving you my Chicken Yakitori recipe. Yakitori is made with several bite-sized pieces of chicken meat, mounted on a bamboo skewer and grilled. However I love just making it in batches, cooking it up and popping it in to the lunchbox (minus the skewers). Or keeping it in the fridge and nibbling on them as a snack. This is a great lunch hot or cold! Perfect for an alternative to sandwiches! Pop it into the lunchbox with a couple of and some fruit and vegetables and they will gobble it up!
Chicken Yakitori Recipe:
¼ cup Soy Sauce
2 tablespoons Mirin
2 tablespoons Maple Syrup
1 teaspoon crushed Garlic
2x Chicken Breasts (or thighs if you prefer) sliced thinly
Mix marinade together in a bowl.
Add Chicken Breasts and marinate for atleast 5 minutes (up to 1 hour).
Add to soaked wooden skewers and grill – however if not skewering, pop into fry pay with a little oil until golden brown and cooked.
On the menu:
Chicken Yakitori (with Chia Seeds Sprinkles)
Rice (with Chia Seeds Sprinkles)
Spinach Leaves, Grape Tomatoes and Cucumber
Carrots and Celery
Watermelon and Strawberry Triangles
Served in the EZ Bento Lunchbox with the Cat and Fish snack boxes inside.
No, but I really like the look of it! Great flavours!
My mouth just watered. What a fabulous lunch box idea.
I love chicken yakitori! My recipe is different to this one though, but never considered making a big batch to put in lunch boxes, think I’ll have to do this next time
Yvette this looks delicious! I’m always worried about giving my boys skewers because I just know it will end in tears (someone elses). Do you pack an ice block in the lunch box to keep the chicken cool?

This looks delicious Yvette, we love yakitori!
Ooo that does sound nice – I just usually put honey in with my kids but this might be a winner!
I’ve not tried chicken yakitori before – thanks for sharing the recipe, that would be something my girls would love to try!
I’ve never heard of it, let alone tried, but going to! I’ve only ever sprinkles chia seed on my yoghurt, will have to put some on my chicken now
I like the sound of the chicken yakitori – I need to start sending my kids protein filled lunches.
Looks yummy!
Oh yum! Can you you come and deliver lunch to me too!? Thanks for the inspiration. Cheers, Alison
Have bookmarked this recipe for my three girls, who are just getting in to cooking.
Yum! Love yakitori! Have never actually made it for myself, though – just might give it a go now that you’ve made it look so easy! Thanks! Katie at Mumabytes
Yum that looks great! I will have to try this one, it would be nice with a salad!
That looks so good. It looks very easy too, which is wonderful and something that I think I can do.
Yummo! They look amazing. xx
Sounds so yummy and easy to make
I’ve never had chicken yakitori with chia seeds before – it sounds interesting!
This looks great. My daughter loves Teriyaki chicken cold so I think she would go for this, with the chia seeds for extra goodness.
