One of the best ways to enjoy a packed lunch - whether you are a child or an adult is via Bento!
I have been making Bento Style Lunches for my children for the past two years and even my husband has his lunch in a Bento Style (he requests my Pacman Sandwich Cutters alot!)! He has come to the realisation that the little ones love their lunches the way Mummy makes them, I think he appreciates the time and effort I put into it – although it doesn’t take me that long at all and they are quiet easy! But the main reason I started these lunches was so my children would eat more, and try new foods. This has worked for us and I couldn’t be happier!
I will continue using a packed lunch this way – throughout their primary school life. There are an average of 200 packed lunches a year, I will be making for my daughter when she starts school next year. Making these lunches the same, with a little variety, I find is all down to the styles of lunchbox and the sandwich cutter you use!
On the menu:
Sausage (held together with a Leaf Food Pick)
Cheese
Ritz Crackers
Tomatoes (held together with a twin Leaf Food Pick)
Raisins, Peanuts, Yoghurt Berries (in Blocks Food Cups)
Blueberries
Seedless Grapes
Do you make a packed lunch for your children or husband?

I’ve been packing Nick’s lunch for 7 weeks of school now and OMG. It is tiring and hard! He has 2 pieces of fruit, sandwiches, and cheese and crackers mostly. Same thing every day, and he seems ok with that so far. But he also doesn’t eat a big range of foods. Getting “fancy” I sometimes cut his sandwiches in to stars! ha ha! x Aroha
I pack lunches for three children 5 days a week and the fourth child for 3 days a week. Trying to do something exciting and different all the time is exhausting but I’m going pretty well so far this year. Haven’t really got into bento style yet but think I will have to give it a go.
They are a great idea. I sort of do bento for my 9 year old. He will not have a sandwich or a wrap, so I have to be creative and just put in lots of other little things that I know he will eat.
I do packed lunches every day for 2 kids and admit it is one of my least favourite tasks but that is mostly because of their limited food preferences. I love those leaf picks – so cute!! deb xx
My husband packs his own lunch, and it is going to stay that way!! He’s a foodie so he always has good ideas for his own lunches. I like the idea of weekend baking healthy treats for kids lunches, and not using per packaged snacks!!
I love the food cups
I make lunches everyday and although not as cute as yours, they are delicious. Sometimes it feels like a production line with 5 lunches but it saves time, plus the kids eat it all. Your kids are lucky
This is a great idea, thanks for sharing! I always take my lunch to work and although I am an adult, packing it this way looks so much for appealing and fun
I pack Dex a lunch every kindy day and hubby one one occasion – generally he packs his own and I’m happy with that!
Packed lunch every day for daughter and husband here, and it’s my least favourite chore! I’ve found that most mums at school love the holidays for that very reason. xx
I’ve been making bento ‘fancy’ lunches for about a year or so now. Check out my Facebook page
I used to make the Husband’s lunch but now that I have my kids to make, 1 school, 2 pre-school, I make him do it himself! xx
My hubby usually can call in for lunch so luckily I dont have to but the kids get lunches which are becoming more and more bentofied!
My son get their lunch at school and my husband work nearby our house so he goes home for lunch. This is cute ideas. Love it. Definitely will pack some lunch boxes for our outdoor outing.
Gorgeous lunch Yvette! Do you buy or make the yogurt berries?? I think my little one would love those xx
My kids are too old now – one has left school and the other one makes her own, she is in Year 12 – and hubster makes his own too. But I have to say, looking at the goodies in this lunch box made me hungry! I think one of the reasons it is such a hit with kids is that it’s little tiny portions of lots of things. I know when I was a kid eating a whole sandwich seemed like an e.n.o.r.m.o.u.s. task – and boring too. Wish my Mum had known about bento style lunches back in the early 70s!
LOVE!! yes my sons get packed lunches for school

I want to eat that lunch! This is the one area of my life that I completely lack creativity, thanks for all the inspiration!
I pack for my 5yo but he is a fussy eater. My biggest fear is not knowing if putting meat items in his food is safe. Any pointers? e.g if I make savoury cupcakes, would they be ok in his box with ice block? What about sausage rolls? It’s confusing!
Yes you can put meat in your lunches!! In Muffins, sausage rolls, leftover dinners (that can be eaten cold).. I would suggest using a lunchbox that has a freezable lid (like the one in my shop) or icepacks.
Oh, freezable lids? Is that something new?
