When I thought of New Years Eve, and what I could make the children (and myself!) I instantly wanted Tapas, but traditional Tapas are not a favourite of my family (except me who LOVES Tapas!)
Bento Tapas is something I create on a regular basis.
There are so much variety you can use different cheeses, meats, olives, biscuits, chips, vegetables. I don’t go out to the shops to buy these on purpose, I use what I have already in the cupboards and fridge.
I make these when its movie night, or if we have friends pop over for an afternoon visit, even nights where I don’t want to cook. Something that you can just throw together and put out on the table and let them help themselves.
Varieties you can use:
Cheese:Fried Haloumi, Cheddar, Mozzarella, Feta, Brie, Jarlsberg.
Meat: Salami, Chicken, Ham, Sausage, Chorizo, Frankfurters (my mum calls them Cherrios).
Biscuits: Water Crackers, Rice Crackers, Bread Sticks, Salada, Chips, Tiny Teddies, Marie Biscuits, Nice Biscuits, Chocolate Biscuits.
Vegetables: Carrots, Celery, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Bell Peppers, Avocado, sun-dried vegetables.
Fruits: Watermelon, Rockmelon, Strawberries, Apples, Banana’s (slice and use food picks with these fruits)
Other Nibbles: Dried noodles, peanuts, cashews, almonds, raisins, marshmallows, dried fruits, chips, popcorn, dips
You can put these in separate plastic containers (separated by mini containers or silicone cups), compartment style lunchboxes, plates or tapas plates.
The above picture is a traditional Japanes Bento Plate – if you would like to order one, please contact Little Bento World.
